The latest showcase of Devolver Digital products is expected to hit our screens early next month.
The new showcase will be part of Summer Game Fest and will be broadcast on June 8 at 6pm EST, 3pm PDT and 11pm BST. Australian viewers will have to wait until 8am AEST on June 9.
Devolver Digital is best known for publishing some of the best indie games, including a psychedelic shooter Hotline Miami, bland sweet indoctrination simulator Worship of the Lamband a quirky platformer autumn guys.
We’ll probably see previews this year Gunbrella, Pepper mill, AND Talos Principle 2. However, as is often the case with Devolver Digital, publishers are almost certain to throw more than a few curve balls at us.
Come in, Volvy, Devolver’s unsettling new mascot, full of the aggressive energy of the 90s. During the teaser for their upcoming showcase, Devolver took the opportunity to take a few punches in nostalgic cash grabbing, emphasizing the irony in its trailer for a supposedly beloved character who never really existed. Like the bootleg version of Sonic the Hedgehog, the Volvy is a troublesome but oddly fascinating beast.
Devolver is no stranger to tongue-in-cheek marketing techniques. Last year’s 25-minute “Marketing Countdown to Marketing” was surreal experience combining comedy and gaming previews with delightful irreverence. Devolver presented itself during the event Worship of the Lamb, Card shark, Rate of anger, brave squire, AND A skate story between bouts of bizarre comedy.
We can predict that publishers will follow a similar path this year as well. Fans of comedy and indie games will surely be equally satisfied with Devolver’s offer. Devolver’s playful tone is often a welcome break from the more direct marketing techniques used by larger publishers. If you like indie games or just weird comedies, Devolver Digital’s June showcase might give you exactly what you’re looking for.
