Intel arc – company “lost”And a controversial novelty graphic cards – he had a fight in the latest Puget system comparative tests (opens in a new tab).
When trying out the new Intel Arc A750 8GB and Arc A770 16GB graphics cards that came out on October 12, the custom PC developer found that performance was less than spectacular compared to popular NVIDIA cards. GeForce RTX 3060.
While Intel GPUs are mostly gaming focused, meaning content creation is sometimes a secondary concern, the company admitted that “we’ve come across a lot of cases where we lacked software support or where a planned feature didn’t work. correctly”.
Content creation (slow)
Performing a series of tests in DaVinci Resolve – our best choice for best free video editing software – Results showed that both Arc graphics cards had issues with the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB. Overall, NVIDIA’s offering was found to be 20-30% faster than any of them.
Digging deeper, the company turned its attention to GPU effects and RAW debrayering. Once again, GeForce outperformed the competition, processing effects 10-20% faster and debugging around 50% faster.
When it comes to encoding and decoding H.264, this was just a competition. The GeForce RTX 3060 overtook the Intel duo, with nearly identical results when decoding on the Nvidia GPU and Intel iGPU.
Putting the problem in, Puget Systems found that “when using the Intel Arc and iGPU cards (with Resolve for” Intel Quick Sync “decoding) we observed slightly lower performance than the iGPU or NVDEC with the RTX 3060.”
“Performance was even lower when we only used an Arc card (with iGPU turned off),” he added.
However, there was better news on the coding front. When pairing the Arc A770 with the iGPU, the company found it to be 43% faster than the native encoder with Core i9 12900K and 32% faster than using the Intel iGPU alone.
The Intel Arc A750, on the other hand, was less fast – but the results show some potential, the company says.
Benchmarks were also launched Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After EffectsUnreal Engine and the mountain 3D modeling and animation software Mixer.
Here the results were more encouraging. The A770 easily competes (but cannot beat) the GeForce card in terms of both Adobe’s premium video editor and its VFX software. The A750 fared worse, but stuck to its own – especially in Premiere Pro. But, as Puget Systems pointed out, the CPU is much more important in After Effects.
The Unreal Engine – which hints at Intel’s intentions to attract not only gamers but also game developers – found that “looking at performance in Unreal Engine, the Arc A770 is about 8.5% faster than the NVIDIA RTX 3060, while the A750 has 7% slower. “
For graphic designers, both Intel Arc processors have stunningly low performance, leaving NVIDIA to be the only game in town when it comes to professional rendering.
Despite fears that Arc’s high-end GPUs offered content creators a worse experience, Puget Systems at least found it out. video editing uses Intel Deep Link technology which enables the Arc dGPU and Intel iGPU to work together.
