The Oppo Find X6 could be one of the best phones of 2023 – or at least the Oppo Find X6 Pro. After all, the Oppo Find X5 Pro currently occupies a spot on our list of best phones, so there’s a good chance its successor will do the same.
This upcoming lineup doesn’t have the same hype as the OnePlus 11, let alone the Samsung Galaxy S23 or iPhone 14, but there’s a chance it’ll be able to compete with them in terms of specs and performance, so the Oppo Find X6 is worth keeping an eye out for .
We haven’t heard much about this phone so far (or its likely Pro and Lite siblings), but we’ve heard a few things, all of which you’ll find below – and will be adding them to this article as soon as we hear more.
We’ve also included a list of the things we most expect from the Oppo Find X6 lineup to be the best it can be.
To the point
- What is this? Another line of Oppo flagship phones
- when is it coming out? Probably March 2023
- How much does it cost? Unknown
Oppo Find X6: release date and price
While there’s no word yet on the Oppo Find X6 release date, we can only guess as the Oppo Find X5 and Oppo Find X3 lines (there was no Find X4) went on sale in March of their first year.
So March 2023 seems very likely for the Oppo Find X6 – possibly alongside the Oppo Find X6 Pro and Oppo Find X6 Lite as the standard Pro and Lite models were announced at the same time in the Find X5 lineup.
The actual announcement could come in late February, similar to the Find X5 series. But either way, somewhere towards the end of the first quarter of 2023, it seems very likely that we will see the Oppo Find X6.
There’s no word on how much the Oppo Find X6 lineup might cost, but the phones could be priced close to current models.
By comparison, the Oppo Find X5 starts at £749/$1,399 (around AU$920), the Find X5 Pro is £1,049/$1,799 (around AU$1,285) and the Oppo Find X5 Lite is £399/$799 (around AU$490). ).
The lack of US pricing is because Oppo doesn’t have much of a presence in the US, so don’t count on it being easy to pick up the Find X6 line there.
In any case, the above prices probably won’t be exactly right for the upcoming models, but we doubt that the Find X6 line will be much more expensive as the Find X5 and Find X5 Pro are already expensive due to the specs they offer.
Oppo Find X6: news and leaks
The biggest leak so far concerns the Oppo Find X6 Pro and comes from Yogesh Brar leak (opens in a new tab)which revealed many possible specs on Twitter.
Apparently the Oppo Find X6 Pro has a 6.7-inch 2K screen, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 8GB or 12GB RAM, 128GB, 256GB or 512GB storage, Android 13 and a 5000mAh battery with 100W wired charging and wireless 50W charging.
Apparently it also has a triple-lens rear camera with a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide and a 50MP telephoto lens, as well as Hasselblad tuning and a 32MP front camera. The main snapper is also said to have a large 1-inch sensor.
It’s possible the phone will charge even faster than the above leak suggests, as Oppo unveiled both 150W and 240W charging technology – though it hasn’t confirmed that either of these technologies will be coming to this line of phones. The latter, however, can fully charge a 4,500 mAh battery in just 9 minutes.
According Asia Nikkei (opens in a new tab) meanwhile, Oppo could start putting its own chipsets into smartphones from 2023 or 2024, so there’s a chance they’ll be ready in time for the Oppo Find X6 lineup. Current models use a mix of Snapdragon and Dimensity chipsets, which are the two main chipset lines used by most Android phone manufacturers.
It’s unclear if Oppo’s own chipsets would be better, but this change could help the company avoid shortages and disruptions.
Oppo Find X6: what we want to see
The Oppo Find X5 lineup is largely impressive, but there are certainly ways the Oppo Find X6 range could be much better, including the following.
1. Zoom to a greater distance
While the Oppo Find X5 Pro is a top-of-the-range smartphone in many respects, it lacks a front-facing zoom, with just a 2x optical zoom. Most high-end phones go at least three times, and some, like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, go as far as 10x.
So we’d like to see at least a 3x zoom in the Oppo Find X6 Pro – but even more optical zoom or a range of zoom levels would be better. Ideally, these changes should also apply to the standard Find X6, as the Find X5 also stuck with the 2x optical zoom.
2. Lower prices
The entire Oppo Find X5 lineup is quite expensive for what you get, especially considering Oppo doesn’t have a brand like Samsung or Apple. So if the company really wants to compete in 2023, we’d love to see lower prices on the next wave of phones.
This is especially true for the Find X6 and Find X6 Pro as they will surely compete with strong hitters such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 line and the OnePlus 11 Pro.
3. Waterproof
Oppo Find X5 Pro has water resistance, but the standard Oppo Find X5 does not, despite its rather high price.
We can live without water resistance on the Lite model but we really want to see some on both the Oppo Find X6 and Find X6 Pro as it has plenty of rivals at this kind of price point and when you’re spending it’s the kind of money you don’t want to be afraid of a little rain.
4. Microscope camera
The Oppo Find X3 Pro had an unusual camera setup as it included a microscope camera that allows you to take very close-up photos of fine details. We were disappointed it wasn’t in the Find X5 line as it’s a bit of a novelty, but it works well and helped the Find X3 Pro cameras stand out.
So we’d like it to return – perhaps with some improvements – to the Oppo Find X6 lineup.
5. Wider availability
The Oppo Find X5 and its siblings are not sold in the US, which is a shame because they are excellent smartphones that will surely appeal to many people.
Things are probably unlikely to change with the Oppo Find X6 as gaining a foothold in this country is probably not easy, but we’d love to see Oppo try.
