In the end, Samsung managed to do what seemed impossible just a few years ago – produce a foldable device that actually costs about the same as a “normal” device with similar specifications. Well, relatively speaking – the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 still costs $999 at launch, which isn’t exactly pocket change.
That puts it in the same price range as ‘plus’ flagships like the iPhone 12 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus – powerful devices, but no more powerful than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 thanks to the new Snapdragon 888 chipset. Put simply, you don’t pay tech tax for using the foldable device and you even get some new design upgrades.
While the Flip 3 may look very similar to its predecessor at first glance, it now has a four times larger display on the case, an improved internal screen that is capable of 120Hz refresh rate, and a reinforced hinge that seems much stronger than those on previous ones Fold devices. Samsung also ditched the glass outer rear design for this new iteration, opting for a new “glass” design instead. Some may not welcome this change, but it does mean a cheaper device – and one that’s more durable.
